“Tokyo Democracy Forum: Civic Space and COVID-19 in Asian countries”

Based on the findings of the Kathmandu Democracy Forum held in November 2020, presenters will focus on updates between November 2020 and January 2021 on human rights and democracy and the civil society response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic to democracy in respective countries and themes. Presenters will review and discuss progress and challenges of themes such as migrant workers, media freedom, and democratic election, focusing on each target within SDG 16+.

Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP)
Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) supports people in their struggles for justice and brings individuals and organisations together to challenge the institutions and processes that perpetuate poverty and inequalities. Together, we defend and promote human rights, gender justice, social justice, climate justice and the security needed for the dignity and peace of all. GCAP is a network of over 11,000 civil society organisations (CSOs) organized in 58 National Coalitions and in constituency groups of women, youth and socially-excluded people, among others.

Task Force on ASEAN Migrant Workers
The Task Force on ASEAN Migrant Workers (TFAMW) organise CSO inputs into the implementation of the 2007 ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers and the 2017 ASEAN Consensus. The TFAMW is a coalition of civil society organizations, working on the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers and their families within Southeast Asia and beyond.

It was first established in Bangkok, Thailand in 2015 and in 2018 a second Centre was established in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The Centre undertakes independent, evidence-based participatory research on significant issues affecting the region. The Centre works with partners across the region to convene conferences, roundtables and seminars to discuss these issues and communicate policy advice through publications and workshops.
